The global coronavirus pandemic has triggered renewed interest in an old method of immunization that predated and even originally influenced conventional vaccination. It also has brought to light many inconsistences and even outright fraud in the medical narrative of viral diseases including the role of external factors on immunity. It has triggered many questions about widely held dogmas and beliefs about infectious diseases and the germ theory.
An authoritative treatise for the general public on homeopathic immunizations is long overdue. Even though the author has presented the method of homeopathic prophylaxis to his students for around three decades, and has offered the method in his practice to his clients over the same period of time, the colourful history, methodology and research on homeopathic prevention of infectious disease has never been presented in the context of medical anthropology. This book attempts to do that.
The present book has its origin in an article on homeopathic immunization, I wrote around 1995 for the students of The Homeopathic College. The article summarized the history, research, and clinical methodology of homeopathic prophylaxis. However, not until recently and in light of the WHO global pandemic declaration, did I expand and revise this work as a definitive introduction to homeopathic immunization for the general public.
The history of homeopathic immunization is also inevitably a part of the history of medicine. This book highlights two important but little known parts of medicine in general— the development of the germ theory and that of vaccination. Unlike most other texts, it does not shy away from documenting the phenomena of medical scare mongering and outright fraud in conjunction with vaccination that continues to this day. The content of this book speaks for itself. It is primarily intended to educate the public about the homeopathic solution to infectious diseases and at the same time teach the homeopathic specialist as well as the general public a thing or two about the rationale and detailed protocols for homeopathic immunization.

The back cover of this book sets out the author's justification for his work. Manfred Mueller's principal aims are to provide a 'definitive introduction for the general public' to the homeopathic solution to infectious diseases and to highlight the development of germ theory and of vaccination. I also noted (with enthusiasm!) that the content 'does not shy away from documenting the phenomena of medical scaremongering and outright fraud in conjunction with vaccination that continues to this day'. For homeopaths and for the public we are promised a rationale and protocols for the concept of homeopathic immunization.
I find the term 'homeopathic immunization' itself confusing. Perhaps the content of the book clarifies any difference between immunization and prophylaxis? the History title of the first chapter discusses the notions of prevention via epidemic- versus diseases-specific interventions and the second chapter also addresses the thinking behind variolation, iospathy and vaccination from a historical perspective.
These chapters, as well as the subsequent ones (six in all), are well-referenced throughout and drawn from a variety of source material, which is always a huge plus point in my eyes; and a separate Bibliography section is provided at the end of the book.
The third chapter, 'Research', also takes a global and a chronological view. Mueller cites and discusses some of the homeopathic work on epidemic and disease prophylaxis and prevent in a variety of countries over the last 200 years up to recent times. Remedy choices are also plentiful in these chapters, and the following ones.
The next chapter, entitled 'Methods of Immunization', provides rich ground for those needing further, informed information and detail upon (homeopathic) ways of restoring health and avoid ill-health. Here I found my earlier question clarified without the need for a specific explanation and there is further valuable information given in the following chapter centred on protocol and prevention, for those mostly but not exclusively familiar with homeopathic methodologies.
The final chapter is the largest and is entitled 'Infectious Diseases and Their Specific Homeopathic Prevention'. It is just that, and covers a total of 44 different forms of viral dis-ease ranging alphabetically from Anthrax through to Zika. I admit to being relieved to find that COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 was given as much attention and discussed in a similarly well-balanced and authoritative manner to other 'lurgies' in this alphabetical list, except perhaps for HIV/AIDS, which is lengthier but as equally effective.
It is easy to see why Manfred Mueller has been writing for The Homeopathic College in North Carolina, USA, since 1995 and why he must have inspired and informed many students. His style is clear, concise and informed and his book is especially helpful for students of homeopathy and practitioners who want a useful and accessible text on infectious disease of all types. It is a valuable resource for recommendations to patients. In fact, I am very pleased to be asked to review it and have the opportunity to read it for myself. It's definitely going on my bookshelf!
